Silver Linings |
![]() I realize it's only been 8 weeks since the last Entwined, but oh how things have changed in such a short amount of time. Spring is truly here, (though we did have snow here in Western Pa. just over the weekend), coats are blowing, kittens season is upon us and well, we are are in the throws of a global pandemic. Always, but especially now it's so important to remember there is always a silver lining in every crisis. Being able to recognize and celebrate them isn't always easy but trust me, once you start looking and seeing them, things will start looking up. Furthermore, finding ways to help and make a difference for others can do wonders for your perspective. Some of the unexpected recipients of good fortune in this time of loss are animals. Both those we share our homes with and those that are waiting to be found by their forever families. As millions of people find themselves either working from home or on pause from working all together, the pets that share those homes are getting a level of love and attention from their humans that is unprecedented. There are long mornings spent cuddling usually reserved for weekends, no shortage of walks and exercise, and countless opportunities to create new memories and strengthen your bond. Aside from those obvious positives, just by being more present, we have the opportunity to be much more aware of the health and wellness of our pets; observing more and potentially intervening early in any health changes that may pop up. That's a huge win for our pets. And while we are thinking about our pet's health, it's also worth recognizing our veterinarians and their support staff for the selflessness they are showing to their clients. It figures I've had a few health crises with my cats the past two months and I am so truly grateful that I was still able to get them the care that they needed. I never thought a curbside drop off veterinarian appointment would be a thing, but luckily, the workarounds we are seeing are nothing short of amazing. There is no shortage of memes floating around comparing the contrasting reactions of cats and dogs to their new found stay at home humans, and some of them probably ring true in your home. And some pretty funny cameos on Zoom meetings and newscasts featuring uninvited pets. How are you spending your extra time with your pet's? I'd love to hear about your adventures! What has perhaps been the best news, is the high volume of pets that are being fostered and adopted in the past 2 months. I think that it's wonderful that the idea to adopt an animal now has occurred to so many people, giving themselves something positive to focus on and also enriching and changing the life of a deserving animal. I can't remember any other time, when large urban shelters would literally have days when there were zero animals available for adoption. At least in this area, the demand has been that great, and according to the LA Times, it's booming world wide. If you are in a situation to foster and adopt, don't forget about the small rescues or independent golden hearted folks that are a rescue of 1 in your area. Many of them are facing funding challenges and could use a helping hand with fostering or supplies. Wear Your Best Pal |
I love seeing what ends up being made with the yarn that I send off and I thought you might enjoy that too. These two gentlemen dreamed of wearing sweaters from their dogs and I was thrilled to play a part in making those dreams come true by making their yarn. And before you ask - one of the very few things I won't do is actually make you a sweater. The yarn - no problem. My schedule - no knitting sweaters ever! I present to you Luca and Jasper! Luca is a Happy go lucky Bouvier location dog living the life LA. His brushings were challenging but the finished yarn turned out just right for the custom cable sweater. Jasper is a celebrity Great Pyrenees in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the soft and fuzzy trademark halo of that breed's yarn worked quite well for a cardigan. I hope these projects make you smile. And inspire you to save your brushings! Twinning is Winning |
